Fostering a Transformative Mindset

Scott Westerman is a Florida professional with an extensive managerial background in Michigan. Having driven telecom industry expansion in Michigan and across the Midwest, Scott Westerman possesses proven tools for success. He shares insights in the “Pass It On” podcast, as well as in a companion book “Pass It On: Lessons and Inspiration for College, and Beyond.”

In one segment, he explores the importance of change in keeping one’s thought processes fresh and moving forward. For those who have achieved some level of success in their chosen profession or vocation, there is a temptation to stay with the tried and true. Unfortunately, this can lead to stagnation in work and in life, and a drying up of the creative wells.

Maintaining an open view and a broad perspective is essential in allowing for adaptation to changing circumstances. Being willing to challenge oneself and pursue new pathways is a major part of the equation, as opportunities arise from small shifts in energy and thought patterns.

It is a fact of life that the pendulum swings in negative, as well as positive, directions. For this reason, many people are unwilling to take the necessary risks to put creative insights into practice. Minimizing these risks is achievable through taking original ideas and subjecting them to a deliberate thought process that seeks out a happy medium between “purpose, passion and profession.”

Honest appraisal, candid self evaluation, and course corrections are all part of this equation. Keep in mind that such thought exercises only yield results if they are undertaken in a serious way, with real stakes, and with the potential of putting them into action in transformative ways.
